The opening day of the 2026 L30 World Championship in Trieste delivered a dramatic reminder that, in sailing, the weather always has the final word.
The fleet was ready for the first official races of the Championship, but the day began with a sudden and powerful arrival of the Bora. The strong wind forced the Race Committee to postpone racing while teams waited for conditions to become suitable for competition.
As the Bora gradually eased, the boats finally left the harbor and headed to the race area. However, the conditions changed once again. The wind became light, unstable and highly variable in direction, making it impossible to establish a fair and consistent racecourse.
After waiting for an improvement in the breeze, the Race Committee ultimately had no choice but to abandon racing for the day. No official races were completed on the opening day of the 2026 L30 World Championship.
Despite the lack of racing, the atmosphere around the fleet remains highly competitive. Teams are fully prepared, and with the Championship still ahead, every race will count.
The weather forecast will once again play an important role tomorrow, but the current schedule calls for racing to resume as planned.
